MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF

THE BOARD OF SCHOOL TRUSTEES

DECATUR COUNTY COMMUNITY SCHOOLS

 

 

The Board of School Trustees met in regular session on Wednesday, September

 

14, 2011, at the Administration Building, 1645 West State Road 46, Greensburg,

 

Indiana 47240.

 

Board Vice President Tim Roscoe called the meeting to order at 5:02 p.m.

 

Board President Annette Geis was absent.

 

Upon a motion made by Chris Owens and a second by Todd Mauer minutes

 

of meetings held August 10, 2011 and August 24, 2011 were unanimously approved as

 

mailed.

 

Payment of claims and payroll were ordered on a motion made by Chris

 

Owens, a second by Matthew Hoeing and passed unanimously.

 

On a motion by Matthew Hoeing and a second by Todd Mauer the following

 

conferences and field trips were unanimously approved.

 

Conferences

Scott Johnson – North Decatur High School – NAAE Convention

St. Louis, MO – November 15-19, 2011

 

Don Hudson – South Decatur High School – NAAE Convention

St. Louis, MO – November 15-19, 2011

 

Field Trips

North Decatur High School Band & Choir – Disney World

Orlando, FL – March 28-April 1, 2011

 

On a motion by Chris Owens and a second by Todd Mauer the following leave

 

was unanimously approve.

 

Susan Fry – North Decatur High School

Medical Leave – September 26, 2011 – 4-6 weeks

 

On a motion by Todd Mauer and a second by Matthew Hoeing the following

 

contracts were unanimously approved.

 

Darlene Fox – North Decatur High School

Medical Leave for Susan Fry

 

Kay Smith – South Decatur High School

Homebound – 5 hours/week

 

Under old business, the Board was asked to approve the 2012 budget as well as

 

act on several resolutions concerning the budget.  Louise Smith, Business Manager,

 

briefly reviewed the budget and explained each resolution.  On a motion by Chris Owens

 

and a second by Todd Mauer, the 2012 budget was unanimously approved.  On a motion

 

by Matthew Hoeing and a second by Brent Muckerheide, the Tax Neutrality Resolution

 

was unanimously approved.  On a motion by Todd Mauer and a second by Mark Young,

 

the reduction of 2011 appropriations was unanimously approved.  On a motion by Mark

 

Young and a second by Chris Owens, the Resolutions on Adoption of Capital Projects

 

Fund Plan 2012-2014 was unanimously approved.  On a motion by Mark Young and a

 

second by Todd Mauer, the Resolution on Adoption of Bus Replacement Plan 2012-2023

 

was unanimously approved.

 

Under new business, Hal Kovert, Kovert Hawkins Architects, presented a brief

 

over view of the North Decatur & South Decatur High School projects 7 & 8, science

 

labs and outdoor bleachers.  On a motion by Todd Mauer and a second by Mark Young,

 

construction documents for Projects 7 & 8 were unanimously approved.

 

Mr. Kovert asked for Board permission to advertise for the North Decatur &

 

South Decatur High School Projects 7 & 8.  Permission was unanimously granted on a

 

motion by Chris Owens and a second by Mark Young.

 

Disposal of obsolete equipment was unanimously approved on a motion by Chris

 

Owens and a second by Mark Young.

 

In his report, Dr. Roach reminded Board members of the ISBA Regional meeting

 

to be held in Seymour in October.  Dr. Roach briefly discussed the possibility of a

 

modified balanced calendar beginning with the 2012-2013 school year.  He stated that

 

this type of calendar was adopted by Bartholomew County Schools, which operates the

 

C4 Vocational School.  He also reported that discussions with the teacher’s association

 

regarding this began last week.  Dr. Roach updated the Board regarding the tornado

 

damage at Central Office as well as the insurance settlement for this damage.  A brief

 

discussion was held regarding repair/replacement of this building.

 

In his report, Mike Wilcox requested permission to purchase a used 72 passenger

 

school bus.  He stated that the purchase price for this bus would be $77,500.00.  On a

 

motion by Chris Owens and a second by Mark Young, this purchase was unanimously

 

approved.  Mr. Wilcox reported that the mid-year bus inspections would be held on

 

Monday, September 26, 2011.  This inspection is for buses 1999 or older.

 

South Decatur Jr/Sr High School principal Jim Jameson expressed his

 

appreciation to the students and staffs for the way they have handled the ongoing building

 

renovations.  Mr. Jameson also reported on the new D.I.S.E program.

 

 

 

North Decatur Jr/Sr High School principal Gary Cook reported on the upcoming

 

Accuity testing, the business tech class video project and the Decatur Countians of Note

 

(DCON) project that Mr. Pratt’s history classes are working on.

 

The next regular Board Meeting will be on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at

 

5:00 p.m. at Central Office.

Todd Mauer and a second by Mark Young at 5:51 p.m.
